Planting Trees

"The true meaning of life is to plant trees, under whose shade you do not expect to sit." ~Nelson Henderson

To me, this quote means to leave a lasting legacy in whatever you do.  You may not always see the effects of your actions now, but in time, they will help others.  If we act with this quote in mind, we will begin to see that it's not always about what we want, but rather, what we need to do.

Summary of feedback already received...

Laura, thanks for your posting about Dramaturgy.  I never heard of it before, but it sounds like a neat concept.  Realizing who you are in relationship to others, and how others see you, can help you to further create and form who you really are and who you really want to be.   Something to ponder!

Meagan, I too find it hard sometimes to find a “favorite” quote, depending on what mood I’m in or where I am in my life, or even in my day.  I love your quote.  Realizing God is always there to forgive no matter what we’ve done is a great comforting feeling.  Thanks for sharing!

The Harvest

"Don't judge each day by the harvest you reap, but by the seeds that you plant." ~Robert Louis Stevenson
To me, this quote encapsulates the "big picture."  Every day isn't going to be a winner.  You are not going to accomplish everything in one day.  Instead, do a few small things well, that will add up in the end to a wonderful outcome.  Farmers who plant "good seeds" can expect an abundant harvest eventually.  A few of the seeds may not sprout, and that's fine too.  However, if he plants all old or less-than-ideal seeds, nothing will ever grow.  Play the waiting game and reap the benefits.

Anyone have any comments or a favorite quote?  I'd love to hear from you!

"Life is Not a Rehearsal"

This quote is actually the title of a book by David Brudnoy, former talk show host on radio station WBZ 1030 AM in Boston, MA.  David had an interesting and fun talk show.  His insights on politics and various topics of life were wonderful.  He died after a long and debilitating illness.

In doing a Google search on this quote, it seems Rose Tremain may have also originated this quote. Life is Not a Dress Rehearsal is also the title of a book by Sheri Shepherd.

Life is Not a Rehearsal, for me as a musician, has obvious connotations.  However, this quote can be applied to each part of your life.  Live every moment like it's a live performance.  No regrets.  No more fooling around.  All calculations and practices are finished.  Everyone is watching you; make it your best polished performance.

OK, I've started the ball rolling.  Let's hear from some others now!
